This weekend is not even over yet but man has our family been busy. Parents flew in Friday and after a quick trip to Breckenridge we started the weekend off with Makenna's 2nd birthday party at a great little park in Colorado Springs. Next up, Quinn's Baptism followed by some killer BBQ and pansit action by my Tito Carlos. Always great to have family in town so I can eat my weight in Filipino food for the year. To top things off my sis Claudine decided to have her baby on Sunday so we now have a baby Jr. Shank in the family. Pretty cool. I tell ya what having as many little ones as I do as a Tito (uncle) is tiring but man is it fun. Alright back to the weekend. Enjoy the pics! More to come I'm sure.

Colorado Center of Orthopaedic Excellence...

fixed me up and helped me get back on the road or trainer for now. A metal plate that looks like something out of the movie Predator and over 10 screws and I'm all back together. My collarbone snapped in a few places and the likelihood of it healing correctly and quickly in just a sling was next to none so with the guidance of my brother-in-law Dr. John Shank and Dr. David Weinstein, head physician for the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, we opted for surgery. I knew I was in great hands regardless of the decision so I didn't even think twice about not doing the surgery. Dr. Weinstein performed the surgery which took just over an hour to complete. Everything went very well and he gave me the green light to start training on the trainer ASAP. 4 days out from the surgery and I'm feeling pretty good about my recovery and even managed to get on the trainer. Just like Lance Armstrong gearing up for the Tour I've got my own set of big goals this summer so I'm pretty stoked to be on the up and up. I expect my recovery to be in the range of Lance's recovery which is 5-7 weeks which gives me plenty of time to train for the Chicago Criterium July 26th. GAME ON!

Down but not out

Went down hard at Wheels of Thunder. It was a fast and somewhat sketchy Pro 1/2 race for such a wide and open course. Was really excited about a chance at the sprint with the team ready to ride for me. Instead I hit the deck and I'm out with most likely a broken clavicle. Pretty lucky my brother-in-law is an orthopedic surgeon so gonna see him on Tuesday and get this taken care of ASAP. I've got some unfinished business and lots of racing this year so hopefully in 4 weeks time I'll be rolling again.

Out For Adventure: May 14th...GET YOUR TICKETS!!!!!!

As some of you may know I'm with The Young Fund, an organization that gives young professionals an avenue to support the kids and families of The Children's Hospital. We are putting on a charity event the evening of May 14th benefiting The Children's Hospital Sports Program (HSP). The HSP gives kids at The Children's Hospital a chance to escape and go play in the mountains. The funds are used to cover expenses for unique sporting equipment the kids need to go skiing or play other various sports and some have even gone on to be Para-Olympians. It's going to be a great event at a great venue for a great cause. Hopefully everyone can make it. Please check out www.outforadventure.org for more information regarding the event.
